WHY AYITI CHERI ITALIA ONLUS?
Our idea comes from the desire to help the needy children of Haiti
A project for life
With my wife Carlotta we were lucky enough to adopt Daïna, a wonderful Haitian girl, who has positively changed our lives by opening us to a dimension never considered before – international cooperation.
There is so much need for help
We have been to Haiti several times and we have been able to see for ourselves how much help is needed. We met volunteers and other adoptive parents from all over the world working to improve the living conditions of orphans and abandoned children in Haiti.
Our personal commitment
We have established AYITI CHERI ITALIA Onlus (in Haitian Creole, Dear Haiti) a non-profit association that operates in a regime of maximum transparency and gives an official status to our commitment. Our association is duly registered with the Official Registry of the Italian Non-Profits c/o the Tuscany Region under no. 0037262.

OUR PROJECTS
Here is what we do to help
HELP A CHILD STUDY
The children of Haiti have great dreams for their future. Would you like to help them study?
Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.
In Haiti only 1 child out of three completes the cycle of primary school. Schooling fees are too expensive for most Haitian families and the state school system is not capable of providing access to education to all Haitian children.
Help us help!
You can send your contribution via Paypal or Credit Card using the button above, by choosing the MAKE THIS A MONTHLY DONATION option.
Do you wish to sponsor a student?
If you wish, you can help a child study and bear the cost of their education. We will assign you a student and periodically send you an update with their report cards. The cost to help is € 21 per month (€ 0.70 a day – way less than the cost of a coffee), twelve months a year. The funds are used for the purchase of teaching materials, the salary of teachers and the provision of the canteen service.
We work to grant free access to education to the needy children of Haiti.
In collaboration with the BRESMA Foundation, we help families who have had to give their children up for adoption, single parents, very large families and families who live in tents or shacks. Children receive quality education, uniforms, school supplies and two meals a day, breakfast and lunch. All teachers and school workers are Haitians and the schools are governed by the Haitian Ministry of Education program.
Ride with Alberto
A journey of the heart towards Haiti to bring a smile to the children of Haiti. Would you like to participate?
The distance between Italy and Haiti is 8,085 km. For every km that Alberto rides on his bikes, he personally donates 0,25 Euro.
Participation is open to all those who use the bicycle, it is not necessary to be a competitor. If you want to keep Alberto company, you can either ride with him or remotely. Also to go to work or to go shopping.
How will the funds be used?
The funds raised will be used to support the activities of the BRESMA Foundation, the Haitian non-profit organization that works to help Haitian children hope for a better future by guaranteeing them access to education and taking care of orphaned and abandoned children.

THE CHILDREN OF HAITI
High mortality, low education, uncertain future
Chronic malnutrition and low life expectancy
Infant mortality is very high: over 52 children per thousand die within the first year of life and over 23% suffer from chronic malnutrition. Life expectancy at birth is low and stands at around 63 years of age.
Low level of education and literacy
Haiti’s school system is very inefficient and only 67% of children between 6 and 12 are enrolled in school while only 30% of primary school students complete the five years of education provided. The reason for the dropouts and the low enrollment rate is related to the costs, which are too expensive for Haitian families. Public spending on education is not sufficient to guarantee education for all children.
The “Restavek”, children without a future
Term in Haitian Creole, derived from the French “reste avec” (“stay with”) to refer to those children who live in a family other than their family of origin with the hope of having more humane living conditions, including the possibility of studying. However, it is not uncommon for minors entrusted to another family to live in an effective condition of slavery, victims of abuse of all kinds.
